Sickness
Absence Review, Occupational Rehabilitation and
Return to Work Programs
The financial cost of sickness absence is substantial: reports suggest
that British businesses lose £34 billion a year due to sick days, with
an employee taking an average of 13 days per year from illnesses.
This
means that each employee costs their employer approximately £1,200
per annum in sick days.
Be it frequent short term or infrequent but long term absences, work
absence has a negative impact for both the employee (a decreased confidence
at work, poor attendance record, “sick role”, job loss, psychosocial
implications and so on) and the employer (reduced productivity, increased
cost, poor staff morale, need for temporary cover, poor corporate image).
Business Health Ireland, through multidisciplinary medical rehabilitation
and occupational rehabilitation, can help to optimise the medical management
of the condition. We can offer an occupational medicine review and
proactive management (and prevention) of sickness absences, and can
deliver an active return to work programme. This will allow your organisation
to improve your absenteeism rate, business performance and employee
health.
